Jimini
Product design & concept testing for AI-powered mental health care

THE CHALLENGE
Goal: improve mental health care with GenAI
Jimini Health was founded with a bold vision: to make mental health care radically more effective & scaleable with GenAI.
The need is enormous. Traditional therapy remains unaffordable for most people, so many are turning to LLMs like ChatGPT as makeshift therapists.
But launching a new model of therapy is risky. After all, therapy hasn’t changed in a century, and people are wary of trusting AI for their mental well-being.
Jimini wanted to make sure their idea would work for both therapists & patients. So they hired us to validate their care model & test different approaches to AI-enhanced therapy.
Our mission is to integrate responsible AI to superpower our clinicians, rather than replace them, to offer a new standard of continuous, higher quality care.

CUSTOMER INSIGHTS
We surfaced customer struggles upfront
To test the care model, we recruited young adults who’d had conventional therapy, to find out what they disliked about the therapy experience, & what they wished for instead. Here are their top four concerns.

Therapy has been constrained by a traditional once-a-week model that leaves patients unsupported between sessions— a shortcoming that can be overcome with LLMs.

HOW WE DID IT
Jimini created a new model: continuous care

Working closely with the Jimini team, we created a hybrid therapy model based on the unmet needs of our ideal customers.
In this continuous care model, regular sessions with a human therapist remain central. But now you also have an AI coach, named Sage, which
- talks to you between sessions
- reminds you what to focus on
- gives you someone to talk to in a crisis
- keeps your therapist up to date
Sage doesn’t replace your therapist; it works with your therapist to expand your care team. That’s a model that therapists & clients accepted right away.

BREAKTHROUGH
Customers understood & embraced the model
By framing the AI as a helpful assistant who’s part of your care team, we created an AI-enhanced therapy model that customers embraced as helpful, rather than threatening.

This approach is a significant step forward in mental health care, combining the advantages of technology with evidence-based psychology.

RESULT
Jimini Raise $8M to develop their model 📈
This continuous care model of therapy helped Jimini raised $8 million in pre-seed funding at the end of 2024.
Jimini is now piloting the service with real clinicians & clients. Peer-reviewed research shows that continuous care therapy produces effect sizes up to 2x greater than conventional online therapy.
And none of this would have been possible without taking the time to listen to customers, & quickly prototype & test different models.
